West Haven Park Rec. Wizards Spring Handbook 2013

The West Haven Wizards Spring Swim Team is an 8 week program designed for inexperienced and experienced swimmers alike.  The team is run in a clinic like atmosphere and will serve as an introduction to competitive swimming for beginners, teaching all four strokes, turns and starts.  For experienced swimmers the program will focus on improving technique and working the technical aspects of all strokes at a slower pace than our fall season.  As always, the team makes sure that all swimmers also have fun and learn the values of teamwork, sportsmanship, hard work and fair competition.  We hope you enjoy your time with the Wizards and hope you consider signing back up with us for our competition season in the fall!

Practices

Dates & Locations

·       April 22, 2013 – June 14, 2013: West Haven High School Pool

Practices are held Monday through Friday at the following times:

4:30 – 5:30

5:30 – 6:30

6:30 – 7:30

Notes on Practices:

  • 6:30 practice – while practice technically runs until 7:30 on all nights during the spring, we may keep the 6:30 group a little later on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  This will be done as needed, and if your swimmer needs to leave at 7:30 just let us know.

  • Swimmers are assigned practice times based on age and ability.  Swimmers are assigned practice times that will benefit them the most and cannot switch practice times unless reassigned by the coaching staff.

  • The minimum practice requirement per week is three.  Swimmers will not see much improvement if they show less than three times a week.

  • Swimmers should arrive at least ten minutes early to practice each day so that they are ready to get into the pool at the start of practice.

  • Parents – please do not drop swimmers off at the pool (especially the little ones).  Please make sure your swimmers enter the pool safely before leaving.  When picking them up, please instruct swimmers to stay IN the pool building until you arrive.  We do not want swimmers outside of the building unsupervised.

  • Equipment - Please make sure that swimmers come to practice with an adequate swim suit, goggles and swim cap.  Coaches can recommend equipment.

Important Dates
