The Wizards are not only a top notch competitive swim team, we are a proud city program dedicated to representing West Haven throughout the state and giving back to our community. In addition, we work hard to make sure our swimmers enjoy the sport and the team they dedicate so much time to. This page highlights some of the other activities we enjoy throughout the year that help make being a Wizard so great!
When: A few days before the first meet of the Fall/Winter Competition Season
Who: All members and families of the Fall/Winter team
What: In order to get ready for our big season the team enjoys a heart meal full of carbs prepared by our Parents' Club. Swimmers enjoy great food, get their gift from the PC, and Coach Sean will teach them the cheers they will use all season long!
When: Sometime during the Holiday Season
Who:All members and families of the Fall/Winter team
What: Swimmers will enjoy the Holidays together with pizza, DJ, and all of their friends from the team.
When: Usually January or February
Who: While the Plunge itself is a city sponsored event with open registration, participation as a Wizard is limited to all members and parents of the Fall/Winter team
What: The Icy Plunge for the Cure is a City Sponsored event that is over ten years old. The Wizards have been participating in the event as a team since 2008. Participating Wizards raise money and partake in a quick dip into the frigid waters of Long Island Sound. While this event is not for everyone - all the money raised for the event is used in the fight against breast cancer.
When:Memorial Day
Who: All members of the Fall/Winter and Spring teams
What: Who doesn't love a parade? Every year the Wizards roll up their sleeves, put together their customized float and roll down the heart of the city, showing off their team and civic spirit at West Haven's annual Memorial Day Parade! Afterwards they all meet up for their annual team picnic to kick off the summer.
When: 4/10/11
Who: The clinic was open to all swimmers from across the state.
What: In April 2011, the Wizards played host to Olympic Gold Medalists Josh Davis and Ian Crocker, who spent the day lending their knowledge to over 80 swimmers from West Haven and other Yankee League Teams. Not only did everyone learn a ton from the two Olympic champions, but their kindness and enthusiasm were more than anyone could have hoped for.
Maybe some day we will see them again, in the meantime, in case you missed the front page article in the New Haven Register, take a look at the entire day in pictures by going to our Photo Gallery.
When: Late April/Early May
Who: All members and families of the Fall/Winter team
What: To celebrate a great year, the Wizards meet up for their annual awards banquet, to remember all that was accomplished the previous winter, and the Coaches and Parents get to reward the swimmers for a job well done.
